TACKERS RED

Best & Fairest - Ollie Purcell
Ollie had a fantastic year once again. He can play in any position,
although he does tend to pop up in the goal square when playing full
back. His overhead marking is probably the best in the league and I’m
sure he would have been at the top of the coleman medal if they kept one
for tackers. His tackling is bone crunching and there were many
opposition players who would have woken up very sore on the Monday
after the game. Also saw Ollie kicking a few left footers during the game
which is great to see.
“Keep working on your kicking mate, it’s coming along nicely.”

Runner Up Best & Fairest - James Savage

James had a very consistent year and always turns up to play. His pace is
blinding and his foot skills are sublime. He has a great drop punt that
penetrates that clog of players we always see in Tackers which opens up
the game for our runners.

“ I like your “don’t argues” also James and you look great when you take on
players and sell the candy as they say. You also bring your other
teammates into the game which you should be proud of. Work on your
overhead marking and you will go to the next level.”

Third Best & Fairest - Ben Gale

Benny is probably our smallest player but you wouldn’t know it once the
siren goes. Ben is always the last one up off the bottom of the pack and
his 2nd and 3rd efforts are brilliant to watch. He reads the play like a
veteran is quite often the first link in a chain of possessions that sees the
ball go from one end of the ground to the other. He can also take a great
overhead mark and kick some great goals.
“Work on keeping your feet in the contest Benny and you too will take the

next step.”

Most Improved - Floyd DiNicolantonio
This was a close one to call as it could have gone to about 10 players.
Floyd got the nod with some best on ground performances and a
consistent effort over the year. He holds down our key positions at either
end of the ground when required when he gets the ball, there is no
stopping him. I mean literally. No one can tackle Floyd and he always
manages to find a way to get boot to ball. I love the way he bursts open
packs. He has courage too which was evident when he went back with the
flight of the ball and split his eye open.
“If you improve next year as much as this year, our key position posts will
be hard to stop.”
