season we think we would have turned the
results around.

After that we sang the song a LOT. We got
over Parkside away by a little, then Warrandyte
by a lot. Whitehorse brought it up to us and
beat us later in the season. Bulleen were
always strong and beat us twice, but we beat
them in the Semi and by the time we got to the
Granny the winning / losing margin was only 7
points in their favour!

At the League votes night seven of the first ten
places were taken by GDU and Bulleen
players. Our hearty congratulations to Zane
Kadlecik, Wally (James Waldon) and Christian
Thiel. Our men finished second, third, and
fourth in that order, and this, in spite of taking
votes off each other every game. Looking at it
another way, on average these three
accounted for half the YJFL votes awarded to
players by the umpires in every game of the
season and that does not take into account
the many votes awarded to other players in
the team at the same time. Zane was also
selected as full forward in the Colts Team of
the Year (selected from all Colts teams in all
four divisions – there were 33 teams and over
800 players in Colts this year). Not surprising
when he kicked over 60 goals for the season
including bags of 7 and 10!

Very early in the season the team was asked
to contribute names for captains and after the
grading games those chosen were Matt
Torcasio, a strong, talented, and focussed
player, Hamish Singh, aka “Hammer”, a man
who reads the play like few can and is one of
the most courageous people we have ever
met, and Christian Thiel, one who leads by
action and word and never gives up. All these
men are leaders, all have courage, all were the
perfect choice and all brought honour to the
jumper.
As with all footy these days most men saw
time on the ball, got benched when match ups
needed adjustment, they got injured or moved
around to do the team thing.
But when possible the line-up was a winning
combination. Zane, Liam Duffy, and Shane
