GDU COLTS

and I don’t want them to cut off the new
jumper”.

Our mid field was formidable, a mixture of
leadership, skill, mongrel, with hard at it and
never say die attitude. Roving were James
Corboy, knee surgery kept him out until late in
season but he made an awesome come back,
th
Matt Silipo, played his 150 junior game in the
grand final was also restricted to a handful of
games due to injury with a severe hammy
keeping him quiet until late in the season.
Fernado Berghella (Fernie) had a shocking
year for injury off the field and also saw time in
hospital. So, for most of the year Brodie
Rebbechi took the role and he would bring
down an elephant if it had a footy. And
together, Torca, Christian and Brodie led
tackle count every game! Lachlan Bruce is
one of the best tap ruckmen going around but
he gets a truckload of marks around the
ground every game!
Add to this we also had Zane, Liam, Wally,
Hammer, Juz, Big Jake and the Truck working
through the midfield and on-ball group.
A quick thank you to Matt Grundy (U15 GDU)
who made it to a lot of our training sessions
and helped with his enthusiasm and voice and
also played a game when we were short
together with Jyedin Williams and James Tino,
also from the U15 GDU team, hard to image
when we had 29 on the list!
The club owes a big thank you to Jimmy
Singh and Paul Duffy, who are such stalwarts
of the club and have given a great deal to this
team over many years, as runners, trainers,
mentors and friends. This year was exactly the
same.
Huge thanks to Team Manager Pat Silipo, Pat
is a long standing member of Doncaster and
willingly took on the unenviable job of
Manager. He was key to our success.
Thanks to Andy Mangos for his tireless and
vital work of skills coaching together with his
game day coaching.
It is difficult to pen this without a degree of
emotion. We don’t coach without passion and
we don’t coach unless we are by nature
competitive. Simply put, we do coach to win,
but not at all cost. There are much more
important things than the scoreboard result.
And our success at coaching for these The Demons played sensational footy –
reasons is shown by this recollection. particularly in the first half but the opposition’s
leg speed eventually got the better of them.
