effort saw the boys go down to Hawthorn Citz
by just 3 points in the pouring rain.

1 win and 2 losses was not the plan with
games against Beverley Hills and Kew Comets
to come.
The merger kicked in for Round 4 and the
numbers swelled with 6 players on the bench.
After the luxury of making minimal, if any,
bench rotations in the first 3 weeks, the
challenge was to ensure fair game time for all
boys. This was proving to be difficult whilst
concentrating on the games at hand.
We won 3 quarters against Beverley Hills but it
was not enough to get over the line and the
ledger slipped to 1 and 3. Kew Comets was
next and they too were too big and strong and
took care of us by 6 goals at Victoria Park. The

Round 1
With the 2013 Premiership Flag missing in
action, there was no unfurling of the flag in
Round 1. We went into the game with 18 boys
after the inclusion of Elliot Nichol, Dave
Waldron and Jack Tolley from the Under 11’s.
And thankfully those boys played as they
helped themselves to 3 of our 8 goals to get
us home by 4 points. A Mitch Barnard Brown
soccer off the ground in the dying minutes
saw us win the first of many thrillers.
Round 2-5
We went through a tough period after that first
week with both teams struggling for numbers
– it was eventually agreed to merge the Red
and Blue Teams and with over 30 boys,
decisions had to be made to trim the list to 26.
As a result, some boys moved to the under
13’s for the year and some Doncaster Heights
boys had to return home. It was really difficult
breaking the news to the boys who had settled
in well at the Falcons.
