UNDER 13s

Our midfield was incredible all year - talk
about work ethic! I believe that our A grade
midfield was the equal of every other team’s
prime movers, we just didn’t have the depth to
rotate them which meant they ran themselves
into the ground week after week! Big Mike
Tynan bore the brunt of the rucking work and
improved again from last year. Mike is really
an emerging talent and I sincerely hope he
keeps pursuing his footy. Along with Mike, it
was hard man Jamie Lay who also worked
tirelessly for the contested ball. Jamie
unfortunately dislocated his shoulder during
the year but displayed his commitment to his
team by playing many games with the injury.
Matt Exell was again a key player for us with
his silky skills and ability to read the play so
well. He spent the year rotating with Mike

developed into a wonderful running player.
Then we had the little “pocket rocket”, Darcy
With the arrival of the U/12’s, we played some Feutrill whose courage and attack on the ball

away. In both games we showed what we
were capable of once we got the ball moving
and our running game kicked in. We then
narrowly lost to Bulleen Temp which was a
game that we should have won but just
couldn’t get over the line in a nail biting final
quarter. As the year wore on, the workload on
all players took its toll and despite our players
best endeavours we copped a couple of big
losses.
Our defence worked overtime throughout the
year - generally against taller and bigger
bodied opponents. The bulk of the burden
was carried by Cooper “007 “Bond, Matt “T-
Bone” Tsoutsouvas and James “Dicko”
Dickinson. These 3 players gave their all, week
in week out and ensured that whoever their
opponent was, they were in for a torrid time! In
support we rotated Matt Exell and Michael
Papas through half back, which added a
healthy dose of class to back line. Paul
Lindsay playing out of his age group was a
most impressive performer. Paul’s courage
and ability to read the game will stand him in
great stead for next year whether he plays up
or in this year level again. One of the players
who really improved throughout this difficult
season was “Flying Fin” Pike whose courage
to take on the opposition and run with the Under 13 Best & Fairest winner Darcy Feutrill
footy was breathtaking at times! finally gets the award he so richly deserves.
