Alternative Energy

Shi Zhengrong the CEO of Suntech has often spoken about his relentless pursuit of ‘grid parity’ which is the Holy Grail for the solar industry. What is grid parity? It means getting the cost of producing solar energy down to the point where there is no difference between it and competing fossil fuel like natural gas or coal.

Shi Zhengrong says that Suntech production line expects to achieve this by 2012.

The attached article is not about Shi Zhengrong, China’s Solar King but about a textile mill in Lowell, Massachusetts USA which is rolling out a brown plastic film that converts indoor and outdoor light into electricity.

How close are we really to removing our dependency of fossil fuel and what impact will it have on Australia? You tell me.
