The following relates to different families that make up the current Corunna Graham's.
The name Corunna comes from the Battle of Corunna ( in Spain known as Battle of Elviña, took place on 16 January 1809. A Coruña is a port city on a promontory in the Galicia region of northwest Spain. it is also form where the Spanish Armada sailed from in late May 1588. A medal was won at the battle of Corunna and that medal has been passed down to the youngest son ever since, ... Greg Graham, now Paul Graham.
William Peden Graham arrived from Ireland, county Armarh, and reasonably well off family. Well educated, sang in church choir. Came to Australia to make fortune in Bendigo area but went into vegetable production. Married Emilia Cox in Echuca. Built Shamrock Hotel in Echuca in late 1850's, the first brick hotel. Mayor of Echuca in 1867. Drinking problem but wife saved him. Bought a property on Goulbourn, Canupella.
Gregory Cox's, the winner of the family medal at Corunna, son Edward together with his wife and two children plus his sister, Cathryn, arrived by boat, The Caliope, in 1853. The daughters were called Emillia Elizabeth and Gertrude Ellen, Gertrude was born in 1851 and died at sea during the trip in 1853.
