| Tax Audit Activity ? Motor Vehicle Expenses |
| The Australian Taxation Office has recently indicated that a focus of their audit activity on individual tax returns, will be Motor Vehicle expenses claims.

The work related expense compliance program conducted by the Australian Taxation Office, is expected to request a number of tax payers to provide additional information when lodging their 2003 income tax return (unless the tax return has already been lodged).
Part of the focus will be on Motor Vehicle expense claims in occupations where they would not expect large claims and also first time Motor Vehicle claims where there has been no apparent change to employment.
Can we suggest that there might be two ways to deal with this. Be prepared with your information, or have your return prepared and lodged before a request has been received.
