The Australian Taxation Office will allow deductions for donations up to $10 made to ‘bucket appeals’ for the floods without needing to keep a receipt. When making donations through other means, such as a bank or retail outlet, a receipt will be required. For donations made via the web, a bank or credit card statement will be enough. Also check that it is a bona fide charity – technical term is ‘deductible gift recipient’, or one that you recognise.
