Update- America’s Largest Companies

Fortune has just published the Fortune 500 for 2011 which lists the 500 largest US companies by revenue.

Exxon Mobil came in at number 1 position with US$452.9 billion while last years number 1 Wal-Mart Stores came in at number 2 with US$446.9 billion in revenue.

The highlight for me however is the table showing the top 20 companies ranked by ‘Total Return to Shareholders’ over 1, 5 and 10 years.

With the median return for the top 500 being 6.6% per annum for 10 years it is staggering to see the top 20 returning between 21.8% and 43.9% per year for the last 10 years.

Note, not one of the top 20 best total return to shareholders over 1 year features in the 10 year ranking.

It just proves once again how difficult it is to manage direct investments and how important it is to employ the very best professional funds management teams that you can find.

At Newealth we are always looking to innovate and improve our ongoing services wherever possible and if you have any ideas or comments, please feel free to email me via ‘Contact Us’ at www.newealth.com.au or to call me on +61 2 9267 2322.
